Corporate Social Responsibility

MorphoSys is increasingly active in fulfilling its role as a socially responsible company.

At the end of each year, the employees of MorphoSys AG support local charitable non-profit organizations with private donations. In 2008, MorphoSys’s staff donated approximately € 1,700 to Kinderzentrum München, an organization supporting families with children suffering from chronic and lifethreatening diseases.

In May 2008, MorphoSys donated a total of €10.000 to the children’s rheumatism trust Kinder-Rheumastiftung, an organization which initiates and supports projects across Germany which promote studies and research into new possibilities of treating rheumatoid arthritis in children with the aim of allowing such children to lead as normal a life as possible. In Germany, some 50,000 children and young people are affected by an acute rheumatic illness.

In May 2007, MorphoSys donated a total of €10,000 to the Ronald McDonald House charity. This fund helps families with sick children, in particular those with cardiac illnesses before and after transplants. Such families live in Ronald McDonald Houses in the immediate vicinity of larger children’s hospitals while their children are receiving treatment. Studies have shown that treatment can be shortened by up to a third if parents and siblings live close to young patients.

The biotechnology industry is not a carbon-intensive sector. MorphoSys is exploiting measures to further reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in the interests of the environment. MorphoSys’s business unit AbD Serotec participates in a carbon offsetting scheme related to product shipments. Under the terms of the agreement, AbD Serotec’s courier services partner calculates the carbon footprint for each AbD Serotec product shipment, and purchases carbon offsets at ClimateCare on AbD Serotec’s behalf. ClimateCare invests the carbon offsets in a variety of projects such as reforestation, renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.

MorphoSys offers wide-ranging employment opportunities, offering employment for school leavers looking for vocational training, graduate students’ diploma thesis as well as internships for students and technical assistants. As a part of its open-door policy, MorphoSys presents itself on a regular basis to visitors at an annual open house and throughout the year.

One of MorphoSys’s main goals in regard to corporate culture and human resources is to secure a healthy work-life balance for its employees and their families. As a part of this effort, MorphoSys — together with other Munich-based biotechnology companies — founded a local kindergarten called “BioKids” in 2002 and has supported this both financially and in terms of active participation since that time. A member of MorphoSys has been consistently on the advisory board of the holding company Kita BioRegio e.V., which represents “BioKids.”
