MorphoSys is, and has been, active in this dynamic, rapidly growing
market for several years, and is thus strategically well placed to
exploit this growth. The unique features of the MorphoSys technology,
which enables the creation of tailor-made antibody drugs, are expected
to increase the probability of development success. This is a key
factor in explaining why the technology is so highly regarded in the
pharmaceutical industry.
Today, the majority of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies work with
MorphoSys’s technologies to discover and develop new antibody drugs.
MorphoSys has thereby achieved one of the goals the Company set itself
several years ago, namely to become the partner of choice for
pharmaceutical companies developing antibody drugs.
Research Antibodies
MorphoSys’s Research Antibodies segment operating under the brand
“Antibodies by Design” was launched in 2003. The aim of this segment
was to further develop the market for non-therapeutic applications. In
2005, MorphoSys announced the acquisition of the U.K. and U.S.-based
Biogenesis Group, a supplier of antibodies to the life sciences
research community. The acquisition provided MorphoSys with immediate
access to new market channels for its HuCAL technology. In line with
this strategy, MorphoSys acquired the Serotec Group in January 2006.
Serotec was one of the top three research antibody suppliers in Europe.
Today, MorphoSys’s AbD Serotec unit is a leading
antibody supplier in Europe and among the top 20 companies worldwide in
this field.
